Yet, the passion never disappeared. From schools to villages, on makeshift pitches and open fields, football has always been played in Guyana. What was keeping Guyana in the shadows was opportunity.

Under Wayne Forde leadership, the Guyana Football Federation has been putting stronger structures in place to advance the game, focusing on grassroots and youth development. This commitment was clear in 2019, when Guyana qualified for the CONCACAF Gold Cup for the very first time.
Now, with initiatives like the ProElevate League, a new era is unfolding. Scouts, agents, and clubs are turning their eyes to Guyana, bringing international exposure, trials, and opportunities right to its doorstep.
The story of Guyanaโs football is no longer one of waiting, itโs one of awakening. The world needs to pay attention, because opportunities here are growing fast, and the next chapter of South American-Caribbean football is ready being written with Guyana in it.
